Pass legislation that prevents politicians from distorting facts or outright lying about themselves or their opponent(s) during elections. This legislation should also include distorting facts or lying while promoting any piece of legislation or conducting the business of the American people.

Politics in this country have come to rely too much on the distortion of facts or outright lies. If politicians were required to be truthful during campaigns for office as well as for pieces of legislation, the American people would be better informed and more able to make choices that truly represent their interests. The United Kingdom has a law preventing deception during political campaigns. In 2010, a British court threw out election results declaring Phil Woolas the winner because the court decided he went too far in distorting his opponents positions. Woolis claimed his opponent was receiving support from militant Muslim groups.
